Facebook is a very big business dedicated to opening new markets for American products around the world and that is really the end of the story. It is not some sort of altruistic social service as TIME implies: it is in fact an aggressive profit-making company. TIME has just given the company a lot of free press. (Its previous men of the year, we note, include Hitler and Stalin.) TIME’s board of directors include men like James T. Barksdale, who is also on the board on the CIA’s investment wing, In-Q-Tel, and William T. Barr, former Attorney General.
